Speech therapy
Speech therapy. Speech - Learning - Development

When does a child need speech therapy?

According to the Prevention Group of the Standing Committee of Speech Therapists of the European Union (CPLOL). There is now an easy and quick way to detect early signs of possible developmental difficulties.

These difficulties concern the skills that make up speech and communication by sector and by age and are:
Up to 12 months • The baby reacts to sounds • Makes eye contact. • Recognizes his mother's voice. • He smiles when you talk to him. • Meets his name. • Turns his head towards the sound source. • Has some basic vocabulary.

Up to 2 years old • His vocabulary has 20-50 words. • Obeys simple commands. • Uses two words to form sentences. • Uses symbolically different toys (eg baby feeding etc.).

Up to 3 years old • Answers questions. • Makes simple suggestions. • Can watch a dialogue. • He likes fairy tales and watches them with ease. • Asks questions.

Up to 4 years old • Answers all kinds of questions. • It is understood by people he does not know. • His speech is closer to that of adults in terms of grammar and syntax. • Tells his experiences. It is a fact that every child is different and therefore there may be some variation in the time it takes to acquire a skill, however the average means something and especially if six months have passed and the child is not making progress, then there should be some reflection.
